Hawes Club Site

Interesting the view of local businesses to the original plan to close the Hawes site for 6 months for much needed upgrades. Their view was that many local shops in the area are dependent on the influx of caravanners all year. I understand that following
discussions with the local council/chamber of trade the site will now remain open but with no toilet block and limited motor home facilities, and a maximum of 55 pitches.

That's good; I've just read that Wharfedale site is closed until the end of June 2017 for upgrades.

I thought it bad planning that, being in the same area, both Wharfedale and Hawes were affected.

Going there tomorrow. Seems sensible to at least keep open with reduced facilities. Why did the HO  tea drinkers not consider this originally?

If that's going to be the case it will be interesting to see what the club are going to charge per night. They surely can't expect members to pay the same cost as a full facility site, can they?

This is a site on our visit list.  As you say will be interested to see what happens about the price.  I suspect they'll charge what they fancy and if the site is full, regardless of the facilities, they'll justify it along the lines of supply and demand.

Nice to hear the local council acknowledge our spend in the local economy.  Could this be used by the CC in arguments to keep other sites open or extend the opening?

I've also seen that Castleton is, pending committee approval, closed until mid August 2017.  Whilst I realise full well that Castleton is not in Yorkshire, it is nevertheless another site within easy weekend reach of many in the same area as are a similar
    distance away from Yorkshire.

It'll be even harder to get into the likes of Bolton Abbey and Chatsworth during the times the above sites are closed!

Knaresborough site is closing for refurbishment until the summer, looks like there will be a shortage of pitches in the area next year .

CL's in the area should do well then. Might be a good time to join other club if not already and of course all those lovely private sites.

Why don't they just put a temporary / portable toilet & shower block on there during the refurb?

That's what any commercially aware organisation would do......it's even what the C&CC have been known to do.......

There was a chemical sluice point  in the cattle market for the Tour de France Grand Depart, perhaps that can be used Tongue Out

Knowing HO's attitude all they'll do is add a note to say there's no facilities available but you'll still have to pay top whacks

Have cancelled this weeks bookng. Now would rather go in Spring time. No facilities OK with me, but will need to see price structure ( Out 21/11). Plenty of commercials in locality if CC too expensive

Why not use Bainbridge Ings commercial site- just off the main road into Hawes from the east - I enjoyed staying there.

Norwich (Royal Norfolk Showground) CC site had portakabin facilities, which were in my opinion ok. Unfortunately the site suddenly disappeared from the CC sites handbook a few years ago without any explanation....

Wehave used Ings and the Honeypot sites. Both are very accessible and as close to town as CC site. Even better options in Cls at Ingleton.

Stayed at Bainbridge Ings a lot when we were tenting. A very nice site. However, although not much further from Hawes than the CC site, it is uphill back, which may be an important factor for some.

I would have thought the Hawes site would be a good site to keep open all year.  I've stayed at the Coniston site in Jan/Feb and there were plenty of takers. I would have thought the Hawes site would get plenty of custom then.

As you would expect the price is just the same as when it is full facility's. perhaps the Club will justify! NOT.

It is reasonably expensive for no facilities £20 per night for a couple in June.☹️ It is only £4.20 more expensive in September, when it has a toilet block.😀

September, seems reasonable for a site with  facilities. The June price without, not so much.👎
