Dual fuel ovens

I have noticed that the electric hotplate in most caravans (ours included) is situated considerably lower than the matal grid which supports pans being used on the gas burners.  This means that only a small diameter pan can be used on the electric hotplate.  Also, when bringing the pan off the hotplate, it is important to lift it high enogh to clear the metal grid before moving it sideways, as it could catch on the grid and be spilled, which is really a safety issue. Surely it would have been better had the stove designers made the electric hotplate surface level with, to +1.0mm above, the top of the pan grid.   Asking too much?
