astra sports tourer as a tow car

Hi Ive a 1988 Eccles with a kerbweight of 1060kg, Im thinking of buying an astra sports tourer which would be used as a towcar. Has anyone got experience of using this car as a tow car? would you recommend it? of the two diesels im thinking the 1.7 with
a bhp of approx 110 would struggle a little and id be better off with the 160bhp 2.0?
