Stolen Motor Movers

Just sat here wondering how many low lifes there are out there.

At the end of Feb this year the owner of the compound where I store the van rang to say that the winter cover had ripped due to the high winds.

I went round after work to remove the cover for repair, when I got to the van I noticed that it was raised up at the front and the jockey wheel was off the floor also lying adjacent was the corner brace. Wondering what the hell was going on I walked around
the van, the battery box was open (battery removed for winter) I noticed that the key for the movers was missing but nothing else continued walking round the back of the van and came up the nearside I then noticed that the Fiamma security handle we have fitted
was hanging at at queer level away from the van the door lock had been hammered and door forced/jemmied open. Looking around the van all appeared OK apart from the hook up lead and a maglight torch had been stolen. I notified the compound owner and the police.

Further examination showed that the security handle had been forced so much it had pulled the retaining plate right through the side of the van and peeled back the exterior alloy.

The following day I took the afternoon off work to get things sorted and get my local engineer out to fit a new door lock. As I entered the van I noticed that the cushions were slightly askew lifting them back into position I noticed that the slats were
pushed back and the wires ripped out of the alarm. As I looked down at this my mind registered that there was something missing and then I realised that the control unit for the motor movers was missing, I promptly looked under the van and yeah they had gone,
phoned the police again. Taking a very good look at everything now the low lifes had taken everything including the cable clips the only thing they had left was 1 x screw and 1 x nut, but they were neat they even screwed the nuts back onto the master switch
when they made off with the main cables.

Anyway the insurance company was very good the van goes in for a new outer and inner panel at the end of the month and I got the replacement movers fitted Friday. In talking with the fitters they said that it was the first time they had heard of this type
of theft in the 6 years they had been doing the job. I replied that the police believe my van was targeted. We discussed security for the new movers and I'm going to captive weld the nuts on the fittings so they can be undone. The fitter suggested that park
the van with the nose as low as possible and fit corner steady locks on the front legs as then it would be very difficult to get underneath to remove the movers.

The ironic thing about this is that we had put extra security on the van but in defeating this it had done the most damage, all in all the final cost is just under £5k for a set of movers that are worth about
£120 second hand.

Well low lifes if you ever read this I hope the b****ers burn out quickly.

That's it rant over
