Correct towball and electrics for a new caravan
I picked up our new 2015 Bailey Unicorn Cadiz on 1st December. All excited we had our introduction to all the features then transfered out kit from old to new and finally the last part is hitching up.
Oops now to the problems, our tow vehicle had the old 7 pin electrics, then the back plate interfered with the Alko hitch. Temporary solution, purchase a 7 - 13 pin adaptor and remove the backplate.
On further investigation we should be using a raised towball to suit the Alko hitch as there could be interference between the alko hitch and towball under certain road/driving conditions.
After spending over £20+k on a new van why did the dealer not advise us of these problems!!
I've now had the electrics upgraded to 13 pin, but beware and have it done professionally as the 13pin is now a MOT check item. (Not always for the mobile guy) I went to LNB towbars, Filton, Bristol and what an excellent service they gave.
Now I need to upgrade the towball to a long neck one.
So beware when upgrading to a new or newer caravan as the dealer may not always advise of the towcar / towbar requirements.
