Like many others, we carry a 5litre bottle for drinking water and have never drunk the water from the caravan taps.

6 pack of 2 litre bottles of still water from Lidl. Each one fits easily in the fridge, cheap and no fears of backside mayhem later in the holiday. Laughing

I have had the same caravan from new for 20 years, it doesn't have a filter system and all I do is flush the pipes out at the beginning of the season. Neither my wife or I have had any problems.

Like many others we do not drink the water from our taps in the van, never did with a caravan either. We have a filter jug that we pass water through filled direct from the sites tap (which we run for awhile first) this is then put in the fridge and kept
for cold drinks. The kettle is (abroad) also filled via the filter jug, I have lived half of my adult life abroad and had just about every bug going but this doesn't prevent me now taking precautions against gettting one while I'm holiday.

We always use a 5 litre water container for drinking purposes.  When on serviced pitches I don't use an aquaroll either . I bought an alternative container from Careavan that only holds 10 litres of water
In reserve . It has the benefit of being lighter to carry as well .

A Brita type filter jug  or a caravan in line filter won't remove or reduce Bacterial contamination from water.  They are not designed to do this. And any implication that they do is an invention of the marketing department.

They will subjectively improve the taste by absorbing chemical contaminants but that's not the same.

And cleaning the pipes in the water supply with Milton or Puriclens won't remove the black slime inside them either. This picture from the link mentioned earlier in this thread was taken not long after we'd 'sterilised' the pipes.

We've never had a problem drinking from the caravan water supply and in 35 years of yachting have always drunk from the on-board water supply - both in this country and throughout the Med, with no ill effects.

I also wonder how many people bother to clean the anti-splash nozzle on their taps at home? It's a bit of an eye opener to see what they can harbour!
