Volvo XC90 as a tow car

How do Members get on with the Volvo XC 90 as a car and whilst towing. I am very interested in buying used at around 2 or 3 years old but have seen some horror stories about expensive engine, transmission, gearbox, four wheel drive failures etc and costly
servicing which is very off putting. I have picked these up on the 'Honest John' website. Am I picking up on the usual few dodgy vehicles around in any make where bad news spreads far more quickly than good news or are these vehicles best avoided?
