Jacking a caravan

Hi

I would lie toknow how to jack a caravan up, in Essential Guide To Touring book it says to put the corner steadies down and then jack up and then bring the corner steadies down again, how far do you bring them down the first time, also on alko jack is says
to hook caravan to car and not use the corner steadies, which is the best way
