Hi people,

I`m Dave and the last..... (No sorry, wrong club!)

I`m very happily married to Jules, and after 4 years of umming and arring we have finally purchased our first Caravan!!

To be honest the straw that broke the Camels back is the insessant screaming, crying, shouting, arguing and all night BBQ`s from neighbours on all sides.

Jules and I have stressful jobs and we just cant relax at home, So we did it, we collect the van on saturday, a very clean and tidy Swift Conqueror 580 SAL, we shall be having a trial weekend out in Bridgnorth the weekend after, and in September we have
booked a week at Ramsdale in Devon, together with our daughter, grandaughter and Daizy our cocker spaniel.

Cant tell you how excited we are.

Anyhoo, Hi to everyone, and please brace yourselves for a barrage of newbie type questions.

( I aplogise before hand, as this is a new beginning for us, and we`re totally, totally inexperienced!)

See you around  Laughing

"the insessant screaming, crying, shouting, arguing and all night BBQ`s from neighbours on all sides."  Sounds like your average caravan site. Wink

The awning (or divorce in a bag) is best done in total silence thus avoiding the second item on the instruction list.  The first is take out of the bag, the second is have row with other half.  Seriously though, welcome to the caravanning fraternity, any
problems on site, there will always be someone who will give you a hand.  We have all been there, and to repeat another poster, some of us still are at times.   Enjoy your time away with the family.

Welcome. You may have the odd tough time in the beginning but they get less as time goes on. Lots of good advice on this forum. I have been guided from the folk on here in the last (my first) year of caravanning. Have a happy time.

    Hello Dave and Jules,

We often just go away for the weekend sometimes only 20 miles up the road. Lots of CL sites are quiet and a great way to relax after a stressful week. Although setting up initially can be a bit hairy. We recently got our second van after trying it out in
an oldie for a year. There were a few hiccups the first time we went in the new van but luckily there was help at hand from fellow caravaners.

It's usually getting the awning up that's the hardest part of when you first start caravanning. However, there are usually others on site that might be able to help if you ask them.

Glad to hear that the van's ready. Gives you all weekend to play around in it, finding places to put all your stuff. Hope the following weekend goes well for you both.

OH says she agrees with Jules, soft furnishings, and other nice stuff are very important!

Be prepared to make many trips to Ikea, or similar, and do not question your OH's decisions on these things!!

I see you are from the west midlands Dave. We like Bradgate Park CL in Leicestershire and recently stayed at Burton hill farm Warwickshire which was very quiet. Both are great for dog walks staright from the site. There is not much in the way of pubs and
shops in walking distance at Burton hill but great if you take all you need and just want some good walking and peace.
