Alloy wheels

I am now in the world of 'confused .com'.

having purchased a2003 Toyota RAV4 and loving it I decided to take the car to a local garage to have the car checked over for any unforeseen nasties.

what came out of it was the mechanic expressed concern over the non factory fit alloy wheels (not the tyres) he has advised me to find the weight stamped on the alloy and get the original weight of the factory fit wheel to see if the alloy is able to tow the weight off my van.

i would be gratefull if anybody can educate me on this as I thought a wheel was just round and it was the tyre you had to worry about
