Truma Ultrastore Rapid Rapid XL water heater 850w

Hi,

We have a 2008 Lunar Freelander 585si caravan fitted with the above Truma unit.

 

We have an issue where if you turn on the water heater with electric it does get hot but once you use the water it no longer heats the water.or after a period of time the water goes warm / cold.

 

If you switch the electricity off and then after several minutes back on with it gets hot again but then fails to reheat and the above cycle continues.

 

On gas everything is fine.

 

I have spent hours using google but to no avail sov hoping any advice would be really appreciated.

This sounds like the overheat protection is faulty and is cutting in at normal operating temperature.  I believe it's built into the element on that model, but check with a Truma spares supplier.  I've never done one, but believe the elements are easy to
change, although depending where it's sited in your van, access can be the awkward part.  If the overheat is faulty, it suggests that the water heater has been switched on when the tank's drained at some point, if this occurs I'm told the elements can warp
and be difficult to remove.
