Home from touring France and our 2013 VW Passat estate gave us trouble free motoring covering the 4000m.

The car went into the main agents for the emissions when we were told that we had an oil leak from the gearbox into the clutch housing which had been caused by a fault with the clutch.

The repair would be £5500 but as it was out of warranty for less than 4 months they would stand 70% of the repair.

An independant gearbox specialist said they have experienced this problem before and they would fit a different type of clutch from the orginal.

We have spoken directly with VW who say that there is no problem with the orginal clutch.

As anyone encountered this particular problem.

You might be better trying a Passat specific forum.

In my experience it is well worth doing some research to see if your problem is a common one.

When the abs went on our vw touran last month I found that many others had suffered this problem some years ago, often at about 50k miles. It was acknowledged by VW to be an inherent fault for many vws from 2004 to 2009.  Although my partner has done 100,000
miles in her 2008 model, VW accepted our claim in part and paid two thirds of the costs of labour and all the cost of the replacement part.

If you do find yours to be a similar situation explain it to your VW dealer and they should contact VW direct.  Ours took about a week to come to an agreement.
