Beware of cookers with side opening oven doors
When I took delivery of my new 2014 Lunar Clubman CK I was surprised to find that The oven had a side hinged oven door, all prevous vans had drop down doors.
During our first extended holiday in the van we elected to remain on site and cook a roast meal, my wife was removing the pan from the oven when she let out a cry of pain, the hot oven door had closed on her forearm causing her to drop the pan on the floor leaving
a mess and severely burning her arm.
On examination I found the door was prevented from opening fully as the door handle hit the bathroom door post and then swung closed when released.
On returning from the holiday I emailed my dealer with cc to Lunar Caravans which resulted in being asked to return the van to the dealer for checks the service manager then, decided that it was my fault as the caravan was not sited correctly.I refused
to accept this conclusion and insisted that Lunar be involved, I was reluctantly given a contact Name.
Lunar Said they were sorry to hear of my wifes injury But explained that the oven had been made side hinged for health and safety and could not be changed as the oven had been approved ,I insisted the the oven was dangerous and was not fit for purpose so
Lunar agreed to replace the oven, after waiting some nine weeks the new oven was replaced just before Christmas, on collection the dealer informed me that the new cooker was exactly the same as the original with a side opening door so I insisted that the
van be set up and the door checked in the presents of their staff and guess what? The oven door swung closed.
I have since contacted Lunar after sales department but no reply.
