Bessacarr leg covers

We have recently acquired a 2011 Bessie, and in subsequently perusing the original brochure saw that 'Chrome plated extending leg steady covers' were part of the spec for that and indeed subsequnt years. Could someone please explain what these are and what
purpose they serve, if any? They did not of course come with the van..
