route to bridlingon

hello, from n.ireland. .i am travelling to bridlington, the site park there hopefully in august. crv and swift caravan. i am just a bit concerned about the road from Carlisle. on the map most of it appears to be an A road. can anyone advise if it would be
a sensible option, or would i be better to go down as far as Leds and then across through york. thanks in antipication. ian
