Vintage Hymer LEZ down plating

Hello, 

I am new here. 

I recentley bought a 1988 (Vintage Wink ) Fiat Hymer B554. 

I live in London but was not aware of the LEZ rules, I stupidly thought that they were aimed at commercial vehicles only. 

The VIN plate on my van states that its Maximum Laiden Weight is 2800Kg. 

I have heard rumours that it is possible to get the van weighed and down plated to below the 2500 limit for driving in London. 

Has anyone got any expereince of this and is that a workable Laiden weight for this type of van? 

Pratically what are the implications of driving the van over the stated Max Laiden Weight?
