Could some help am a member think of doing net for the year does any one now cost  instead off per day

You have to do it while on a cc site its £25 for the year for one device at a time,just be aware it is not like internet at home,as it is not for streaming of gaming it is purely for emails and searching internet,and can be slow in some areas as you have
to be aware that most sites are not in areas of good coverage

Just a point to consider, check that you can actually get the wifi on site before you hand over your money.

I suggest that you log into the free CC web site and do a couple of searches when you arrive on site.   If you are happy with.the slow connection then pay your money.

Clumber Park is one CC site which doesn't have WiFi coverage.  On most sites we've been on it's been reasonable, although definitely not fast!  But sufficient for me to check emails and look things up on the net.

You mean that Clumber Park's coverage is not good? It does have Wifi. I was there last year and there was a sign saying no Wifi but in fact mine worked reasonably OK. It depended where you were on the site (according to the wardens). I would have expected them to have resolved that by now and, if not, it's a bad show. 

On the whole the Wifi on CC sites is not great and I have been among those complaining bitterly about it in the past. But it has definitely improved and on many sites that I stayed at last year I was able to get a decent connection and log in to my office machine and do a bit of work. It is not all bad as the posts on here imply.

Reference JVB66's point: streaming is not somehow prevented as one might infer from his post. It is just that the speed often precludes it and where it doesn't the CC encourage a kind of odd ethical approach where one is not supposed to stream and slow things down for others. This will have to change if the CC is to remain in the 21st century. There seems to be some kind of mythical thinking that anything better is not possible.

There is nothing mythical about it, there are limits to what is possible down a length of copper cable, even with fibre in close proximity. You only have to ask some of those who live in rural locations and are lucky to get a viable signal. Yes there are ways around these problems, but just how much are you prepared to pay for your wifi. Folk complain enough about the reasonable £25 a year.

We were there recently (November and December, each time for just the 1 night) and we must have been on that part of the site where it didn't work, because we couldn't get it at all.  There is a sign up at the office which states there is no WiFi.

I don't think that it's the fault of the CC on that site though, I do remember a member of staff (?Natasha) posting something about the WiFi issue on that site, ie the fact that rural broadband is a problem.

Clumber is a huge challenge for us as the site is so far from the exchange. We did double the lines into the site last year but that gets us from 1mb to 2 for the entire site which will work for some but generally not the entire site, especially
when busy or when anybody tries to do anything data heavy

We are exploring options for Clumber. Satellite is a possibility but it is extremely expensive and the models offered to us currently arent very customer friendly - that a aside Satellite also offers a different kind of experience, so its
good for streaming but terrible for anything instant like email so we would need to manage this experience.

Our latest thinking is a centralised covered wifi zone so that the little we have can be maximised in a small space with fewer users, but our longer term strategic plan lies with working with the National Trust who own the estate and also
have the same issues. We are in talks with them to see if we can fund a longer term solution to meet both our needs, but that is not something that will happen overnight.

We are working on how we present our wifi information per site on the website and should have something more visible for members from around April time - this will involve grading the site wifi and letting members know what they can expect to be able to
do on each site as they are all different depending on what bandwidth is available, amongst other factors!

We will keep you posted re a centralised zone vs the longer term plan

Thanks for posting that SteveL. We may shortly have some positive news on Clumber wi-fi, an opportunity has just presented itself that may give us reasonable site wide wi-fi that we are just exploring, there is a bit of a lead time for implementation (not
from us, but the supplier), so it may be July time before it is live but I am feeling really positive we can improve things. Technology is changing so fast so what we can do today may be something different tomorrow. We will keep you posted once its all confirmed,
but I can assure you we are working hard to find solutions

Overall I don't rate Club wifi having been disappointed at more or less anywhere I've used it. As mobile signals get better I tether my iPad to my iPhone.  One of the best signals for 4G is at Chatsworth - middle of nowhere and fantastic 4G so wouldn't even
contemplate buying wifi.
