I spoke to the Coachman representatives at the Caravan Show   about this. They stated it was a lack of communication with the awning rail supplier which caused this design fault. Sorry this will not help you but Coachman say they will have a redesigned awning
rail by this summer. I did ask one of the salesmen one of the awning suppliers stand about it and was told I could put a notch in the offside rail!!!

There is another thread a way back discussing this problem on 2016 Coachman's.Noticed at the NEC that all Coachmans were "missing" the cut out in the offside awning rail, and the manufacturers reasons are frankly pretty poor.

As an aside we have a 2012 Coachman Laser and the  towing cover we purchased is quite frankly crap. It actually slipped off the front of the van last time out, this dispite having been back to the suppliers twice for alterations.

When I questioned how they could supply such rubbish the stock answer was the technical department think it's OK.

Naturally anybody that comments on the cover, and there have been many, are told the name of the supplier and not to bother unless they own a Swift.

Loads of people have complained, both here and on another forum that I sometimes frequent, and the way things are going with this Forum I will be frequenting more often

We have a 2016 Coachman VIP with no cut out on off side, I sugested cutting my own with a dremmil or such like which would be an easy fix but I was soon told 10 year guarantee would be invalidated.

Might I suggest if you want to purchase a towing cover that you tell the company that you were about to buy one from them but cannot fit it because of this problem? I would think that might prompt the company to get into discussions about how to put this
    right......Peter

I asked at the Coachman stand at the NEC Oct show about this omition, reply; if you take your caravan back to the factory in Hull they will do the cut out at your expense. I e-mailed Coachman as I believe it is there error but I was amazed at ther response
quote "The rail manufacturer & Coachman Caravans were not aware of the fitments of any aftermarket products that required the entry point" end quote.

The early Bailey Alutec vans also did not have an "offside awning rail"  i am not sure which company but there was a towing cover made that used  suction pads for the off side

It was Protec - I have one and it does work. Specialised Covers tried to copy but Protec took them to court  re copyright or something and I understand so they had to drop their version.

Write your comments here...That is so poor it defies logic ! What about Towing covers for a start? They should never have fitted them and demanded the rail manufacturer get it right! But hey! , it's only the muppets that buy caravans isn't it?  - total contempt
    for their customers!

Only slightly off topic. When a caravan is bought with a ten year guarentee and it is sold on. Is the next owner covered by the gaurentee for the remaining period?

Yes they should be but only if they have signed it over properly to the new owner I bought a Bailey of 10 months old and notihfication  was sent to Bailey using a specific form. Bailey reissued the cover in my name.

Thanks for that Merve. Would the handover notification have to be sent by the new owner or the dealer? Off topic, I read Roadcraft (priodically).Recommended to me by an ex Traffic. VG important reading.

As JVB says, he sent his off but either can do it as long as Bailey gets the info. I can't remember a charge though?? Every driver who is serious about their driving should use 'Roadcraft' as their bible. I agree- excellent and life saving reading!!

I have to say that as a long term Coachman owner I am both surprised and dissapointed at the companies attitude over this.

I suspect that as their long time customer services manager Trevor Baxter is now taking a back seat prior to retirement, things have slipped a bit.
