Someone somewhere suggested a new thread about what has changed since you started caravanning, so thought I would open this up. We have been caravanning/campervanning for about 32 years, starting quite young and mainly because it allowed us to get away for
minimum expense, as we could borrow a tiny A60 Suntor campervan (which we later bought). We used to decide on an area, pack minimally, including large dog, and off we would go without a care in the world. We never booked in advance as it was easy to get onto
sites both Club and commercial, but you did have to make sure you had some cash on you as not many places took credit cards and it was a cash/cheque only world! Banks were only in main towns and cash machines were few and far between. We got really excited
one year to find the Midland Bank had installed a cash machine in Fowey, saving us the longer trip into St Austell! Threeways (Marazion) had the large paddock area without hook ups, so you could always get in. The racecourse sites, under the Trax banner were
always one of our favourites, and we spent part of our honeymoon at Hexham, high above the town. It was a bit of a snobby Club back then, and we were somewhat looked at with suspicion when we rolled up at Seaview (Berwick on Tweed) in our van, but a short
demonstration, lots of smiles and a pat of the Warden's dog got us in! They are memories of a much more simple, unhurried time spent enjoying ourselves, and I am sure there are lots of posters out there that have similar memories to share?Happy
