afternoon all,

back in the caravan after a few years and have a lovely Pegasus 534 .... Luxury compared with our previous caravans ... however ... despite the match showing 86% I'm having great towing issues with my 2010 Passat 2.0tdi manual estate ... I think the car
will have to change so ( except the Landrover / Rangerover family) what is anyone using? I'm leaning towards Kuga awd but would appreciate any input ...

many thanks.

Such as? Undecided Could it be a loading problem perhaps or maybe you've just forgotten what it's like to tow a large white lump behind

I ve got a peg 534, my last tow car was a honda crv, the type with the wheel on the back door. It towed the van great but didnt leave me with a lot of payload in the car. I changed the car to a santa fe, mainly for the auto and I also fancied a change. The
SF is realy good at towing and is a relaxing drive, but the MPG is rubbish, driven solo the best mpg achieved has been 34, towing its about 25-26. Ive had it from new and its done 13000 miles and the overall MPG is 27.9 about 3000 miles towing. Thats calculated
from total miles divided by total fuel used.

I am still pleased with the car as I dont do megga milages and the boot is large.

SteveG, I am currently towing a Pegasus Milan 2 mtplm 1500 kgs with a Vauxhall Antara 2.2 cdti se nav and its fantastic with self levelling suspension and trailer control, I previously had a Santa Fe 2.2 cdti premium auto and in my opinion it was terrible mpg was poor and it constantly changed gear whilst towing. There are a few reviews regarding santa fe issues on the discussions site.

Have to say I wonder if Mollysmummy is right. The Passatt is an excellent tow car and you could struggle to better it. I would try altering the loading first to see if that helps.

depends on your definition of rubbish. My R Class will do 34 solo if driven like Mother Superior, but towing is down to about 20 .... but the car is 3 litre permanent 4x4 & the caravan is 1800kg, so all in all I'd say that's good. Cool

Also seems to be lots of nose weight comments as the 534 is very front heavy! Bathroom scales method gives 110kg! With Passat max 90kg and Alko 100kg some adjustment to be done here .... Only got one calor light up front but going to take out the front chest
and see how that goes ... Also off to the weigh bridge for an accurate reading

We have a 62 plate 2.0 blue motion estate and our passat estate is the best towbar we've had so far. We have recently changed vans and have a conqueror 580 now which is about a 90% match (and before anyone mentions the 85% rule, my husband is an advanced driver and very experienced tower). we have had our new van since June and have been down to the hilly Peak District and  south Cotswolds with it this summer without any towing problems. We have a reich for weighing the noseweight to make sure it is spot on and are careful about what goes in the car and what goes in the van. We also find the MPG are terrific!
