does anyone have experience of travelling south from north west on M6 - M5 on Friday evenings setting off 6-30pm. Is traffic likely to be heavy or relatively easy run to  cheddar. ??

Yes, we've done this a few times, before we retired. Setting off at 6.30pm it will still be busy, but nowhere near as bad as a couple of hours earlier. Most of the heavy trucks should have gone by then. By the time you get to the M5 it should be fairly quiet. But, with our motorway system, road works etc., anything could happen!

Tend to agree with Pliers.  Not seen the M6/M5 quiet on a Friday evening for years.  Road works are always in evidence, even though there might not be anybody actually 'working' on them. Wink

Good luck with your journey though.

You could use the M6 toll to avoid the worst of it, SPK. If you show your CC card you just pay the car rate. It takes you onto the M42 if I remember correctly and then onto the M5. Great reduction in stress levels! Happy

Bit of a traipse to the M5 though.

Thinking at that time by the time you hit the M5 jct you'll be OK but I reckon you'll hit traffic between jct 20 down to 17 even maybe 16

For some reason some people forget how to drive on a Friday afternoon on the M6
