Getting Stuck - help please!

We a newbies to caravaning & only got our van last week. After taking it to a local site for a "shake down" we seemed to have an issue with the awning. It & the van are new so expecting some issues. Main problem was getting it to slide and glide through
rail. More like pull and push for an hour! Any tips? Please?
