Happy new year everyone

Just a few questions about my new to me 2009 2.0 Diesel Insignia (20,000 miles on clock) and Manual gearbox. This is my 1st towcar and not pulled my caravan yet with it.

1) On a Facebook Insignia site someone has mentioned that when using as a towcar the oil needs changing every 6000 miles or it could damage the crank with burnt oil. Has anyine else heard this?

2) What towing mirrors do you all prefer? I have some maypole ones which i havent tried on it yet just wondered if there were any better ones around. I have seen someone with a small wide angled mirror stuck to their mirror. Wondered if these were ok.

Thanks in advance

Scott  Happy

Hello Scott & Happy New Year.

We have a 2010 Insignia 2.0 SRi with 56.5k on the clock. It was bought for the express purpose of towing a caravan.

I havent heard nor read about the 6k oil change and it is serviced annually by a Vauxhall dealer without them ever suggesting this extra oil change.

As for towing mirrors. I use Milenco Aero and have found them to be adequate without too much vibration.

Never heard of the oil change problem and can see no basis for it. It might be worth having a word with the dealr though just to be sure.

Another fan of Milenco. but try the mirrors you have before worrying about buying more. I have heard of reports of the stick on ones falling off and would not trust them.

I do have spares in the caravan though. Proved their value when I had a mirror break when putting it on before leaving a site. If I did not have a spare it would have been a problem,
