Carrying bikes on a Freelander 2

We pick up our new (to us anyway!) Freelander 2 and have yet to organise having a towbar fitted.

I also need to consider how to transport our three bikes when we are out with the caravan. With the old car, we carried them on the roof, but I'm not sure if this is the best option with the Freelander due to its hieght.

Does anyone have any experience of using a towbar mounted cycle carrier? If we choose this option, it will obviously restrict us to a flange type towbar and not the swan neck.
