Would a leak affect a damp test?
When we bought the caravan (2005 model) I was aware of a slight water mark on the ceiling by the rear roof bar. The seller said there was no damp and when I pressed on it it felt hard and I couldn't feel any moisture at all (I didn't have a damp meter).
The van had never moved from it's original location at a property development so it was the first time in 8 years it had been towed. When I gave it the once over I found the sealant around the roof bar and skylight to be totally shot and thought maybe the
stresses of towing had finished them off.
I booked it in to be looked at as it has been raining heavily recently and made a temporary repair. I got a phone call from the service centre today to say that they have done damp tests and recorded levels of 97%. There doesn't appear to be any signs of
this from the inside.
My question is are the shot seals on the various roof parts likely to be leaking and giving very high readings? If these are all resealed quickly with sikaflex can the van be saved and dry out or are the damp test results indicating the true problem. The
service centre is quite reputable dealer but they're saying over £1000 to repair the seals and £6000+ to fix the damp. The caravan is in otherwise excellent condition.
