Awning or no Awning

Recently we picked our pitch  and then when the wardens came back on duty we were informed we were on the wrong type of pitch  ,  " You are in the wrong type of pitch  ,you are in a non awning pitch"  ,  "but we are not using an awning " I said ,   "Yes
but you booked for an awning pitch  " said the warden ,    This puzzled me  , can someone tell me   what difference  it makes
if i am not using an awning .
