Proposed M.O.T. s for trailers and Caravans.

On page 11 of the Jan. magazine, there is an article regarding EU recommendations that the M.O.T. test is extended to include trailers and caravans over 750 kg MGW. I think that this move is well overdue and would lead to a reduction in unroadworthy trailers and caravans. As the MOT now includes tyres, how many caravans are running on tyres which are well past their intended date. How many have inefficient braking systems, or faulty road-lights? Also, because it would mean that caravans would need to be registered ( ie their own registration & numberplate), the chassis no. along with the registration no. would be logged into the DVLA computer and therefore become instantly "check-able" at the roadside and traced back to the owner. I think that the MOT in general should be every two years not annually as at present. The registration system works well in many parts of Europe, and would do away with many anomalies of matching trailers with towing vehicles. I'm all for it!!
