Unexpected water heating

We recently bought a Swift Sundance 590RS, 2007. On our last night away we discovered we had hot water - not just luke-warm but very hot. The key for water heating on the control panel was not illuminated and the knob for gas water heating was in the off
position - what could be happening?

Maybe the previous owner had had an engine heat exchanger fitted. This would heat the water whilst travelling.

if its a Truma Combi and you had the van heating on, hot water is a by product of this, irrespective of whether the water heating is turned on or not.

without the van heating on, ypu will only het hot water if it is specifically turned in.

On our last caravan the hot air heating ducts were not fitted correctly, So the whole underside of the bunk by the boiler/heater got very hot. The cold water supply has a small pressure chamber under the bunk and I believe that was the cause of the cold
    tap delivering hot water.
