    Being able to use the car's  mirrors as well as the extended mirrors is a reason why I'm not keen on the idea of  suck-it-&-see mirrors. I like my Milenco mirrors 😊

    I agree MM - I couldn't cope with the Suck it and See far too restrictive of the car's mirrors.  I used a felt tip pen (black on dk blue car) to mark the spot to attach the Milencos to - must redo it for this year.  Suck it See on the list to go on Ebay!

    A tip for adjusting mirrors, David.  Once you do get them in the position you want go and stand at the rear of your vehicle and lean against some easily remambered bit of it.  Then look into the mirror(s) and note what you see. Then next time you can reposition the mirror without having to be inside to check.

    Drivers of Land Rovers use this all the time even when not towing as mirrors get swiped by trees and undergrowth.

    Which ones did you buy, the plain glass or convex? I ended up with the convex (after trying the plain)  as they gave me a much wider view. I found this especially useful abroad when overtaking on the left or joining the motorway. My Sorento had convex mirrors so the Grand Aeros matched the same perspective.  I am aware that some people don't like convex mirrors but I found them the best for me.

    I tow with a Jeep Grand Cherokee which has big wing mirrors which extends the cars width to 2.2 metres.

    No need for extensions.

    Swift challenger, 2.23m.

    i have towed down to Portugal, Spain and France a few times. All around the Uk with no problems whatsoever.

    So the extreme edges of your tow car mirrors are only a little bit narrower than your caravan.   So the question is can you get X-ray eyes on the NHS or do you have to go private.

    So what does the law say about rear view cameras? Are mirror extensions still required?

    A rear view camera mounted on the back of the van will only show the view immediately behind the caravan. You will still need to see down the sides for anything that is overtaking, so in my opinion mirrors would still be a legal requirement, if the width of the tow vehicle means they are required,

    As we keep saying, it's the field of vision that matters as demonstrated in Jill's diagram. Ordinary mirrors plus camera might cover it. Only the driver can tell.
