Battery power

Had a new battery in December, not used the van since then.Came to move the caravan this weekend  using the motor moved thinking battery fully charged. Caravan moved about 2 feet then although there was still noise coming from mover the caravan stopped.
Checked the power gauge which showed the battery was flat. Charged the battery fully, disconnected from mains and monitor gauge and for 3 days power stayed at 12. Just checked today and realised I had left the master switch on, gauge showed battery was flat.
There is nothing switched on in the van. Would leaving the master switch on flatten the battery in 24 hours?

If the battery was in actual fact fully charged, I wouldn't have thought simply leaving the panel on for a day would have drained the battery BUT, even new batteries can be faulty.

Sorry if I'm getting a bit boring but we had a similar problem with one less than a year old. Checked capacity using:

    http://sargentshop.co.uk/epages/eshop328964.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/eshop328964/Categories/Self_Help/Leisure_Battery_Discharge_Testing

And was able to state the (low) capacity when we took it back. They tested and confirmed our results and replaced it.

In this case, the supplier should check it and replace BUT unless you've done some testing yourself, you don't have any real idea of the problem or way of taking them to task for a replacement quickly?

Hi Wil, like you I always turn off at the master until again like you forgot once with the same sesult, thinking nothing was on I was mystified until I realised that the fridge door light was on and the little red light on the digital arial also, enough
after three months to flatten the battery..

Wilbar, Did you give your battery an occasional re-charge between December and April to keep it in good condition? If it has been flat for a few months it may now be damaged. There are various items which will be live if the master switch is left in the ON position, one item could be a radio/cassette player. The front of my radio can be removed which reduces any drain.

your alarm will also take power from the battery even on stand, the sensor is normally AA battery powered
