Do porch awnings stay up?

Hi, I have a full awning on my Lunar Meteorite which Im about to trade in for a Bailey Pegasus Genoa. This van will be about 3-4 feet longer than my Meteorite and I just dont think I need or want a full awning of that size. Looking at porch awnings however, they are sold on the basis of them being "ideal for a short stay" so will a porch awning hold up for a typical two weeks in the Lake District, ie. throughout wind and heavy rain? Is the new air frame technology any more or less robust than the traditional type I want to avoid metal poles so am attracted to the thin fibreglass frames or the air frame, but will it just blow away? My gut feeling is that as long as they are erected as they should be then any of them should be fine, but I have no experience of them, plus there's so many brands and models out there I dont know how to decide, does it just come down to what colour I prefer?
