depends on what brand and software its built on....tomtom, garmin, snooper, other.....?

I prefer a stand alone unit as its easy to replace in a total failure and straightforward to update with a pc...

We had a built in one in a Bessacarr MH. It was so complicated it was unusable. It even had a box of discs with the maps on. We were glad we already had our freestanding Garmin and used that. Two sat navs on board but only one was sensibly usable. Wait until
you've got it and try it out is my advice. Don't jump the gun.

agreed, give it a try....youll soon know whether to get yourselves a new tomtom or garmin etc...

the other thing i would add, is that adding POI (point of interet files) is relatively easy on stand alone units....not sure how it would be done on built in ones....USB stick perhaps?

either way, i couldnt be with out my files of sites (cc, ccc, acsi etc) and aires, lpg stations etc, etc..

We bought a truck sat nav with all club sites acsi etc etc last year think I'll just keep that one and have the built in one as back up

Getting excited about our new mh now really can't wait the only worrying thing is we pick it up on the 13th then on the 20th we head over to holland for 10 days

We don't do things by halves do we

remember, sites come and go, so unless you have a way of updating your device with the latest info, you may be driving to a site (eg CL) that is no longer open....or a new one wont be on your device....

    anyway, enjoy Holland.....dont get lostWink

Write your comments here...hi sorry to hijack your post but we are looking at the van you have just bought but a little concerned but how usable the wash room is. We tend to use cl's with no amenities and worry that it might be a bit small.

we currently have a end wash room in our caravan.

    thanks

    Hi tilly

If your going to use the wash room properly ie showering each night then IMHO the washroom would be too small

If it's the fixed bed you need then take a look at the majestic 255 it's got the same bed layout but a better washroom and alde heating system

Think brand new they were £57000 but would expect to pay around £51000

    Miro 3039

    Payload 461

    Hope this helps

Thank you, might look at the 185 as its washroom is a bit bigger. Enjoy your new MH. Cool

Hi, this is the van we bought in Sept last year, so far we have been really pleased with it.

The kitchen sink doesn't drain very well, you often need a plunger to get it started, and you'll need to make sure that the water tank 12v heaters have a relay fitted otherwise they don't switch off with the master switch. This means they come on in the
winter, flatten your leisure battery and make it useless within a few months after a few full chargers. We're having a solar panel fitted next week along with our 'recall relay'. You'll also find the boiler dump tap in the most inconvenient place to get at,
it's at the back of the underbed storage so I have to climb in there to reach it!

Returning to your original point I find the sat nav great. I was a little surprised you couldn't enter the size of your outfit, I'd have thought that would be a standard feature on a van manufactured for motorhomes, but it has got us to our venues safely
    so far!

The bathroom is also great for us, most of the time we  just use it for a quick wash down and teeth clean as we go to the loos for showers. This may change in years to come though.

The main selling point of this van for us was the pop up front facing seats for passengers. They are fab! I've taken one out as we only need one and as they weigh a ton having removed one gives us extra payload and more storage. The remaining one is great
for our daughter though and means that we have nice caravan type bench seats to sit on when on site.

Enjoy your new van, I hope you're as pleased with it as we are.

    Phil

    Hi Phil

Who fitted the tank heater relay for you

And we are removing both pop up seats as we won't be using them thanks for the tip regarding the sink and heater

A simpler solution to the tank heater problem is to just remove the fuse. For the number of times you'll need the heaters it gives much more manual control.

Elddis in their wisdom tend to hide the fuse, but if you follow the 12v wiring from the indoor side of the battery box you will first come to the main battery 25A fuse. Carry on following and a branch in the wiring will appear which if further followed will
    lead to the fuse.

Simple enough except that often the whole cable, branch and fuse is tucked out of sight somewhere. On one van I found it right under the battery box and on my current van it was inside a wooden tray that the
battery box sits on, but it will be very close to the 25A battery fuse which will be visible.

Marquis of Durham are fitting it after being sent it from Elddis apparentl. That's who we bought the van off.

Thanks for the advice Vanfan, to be fair after it's been in for the  modification I might take the fuse out completely. I've managed to camp for 30 odd years without a heater In my water tank....or my water freezing. Famous last words ha ha

We thought they might help resale value and had them just in case we might take our niece or nephew with us if we're brave enough

They will be put in the attic as soon as we get it home

The Fiat UConnect Sat Nav is Tom Tom based. You cannot import your own POI's and have to load them manually. Screen is rather small as is the tiny keyboard that pops up. It works but have had better so just removed it and bought a Blaupunkt Android one instead. At least we can add the information we want. All the suport for the Sat Nav is via Fiat. As for resale value it's a waste of time. You don't get any more for the MH. Last one I had I removed it and put the old radio back in.

Hi, we have the 175 and have found the satnav great both here and in France. Of course you need the common sense that we all need when using satnavs The end bathroom in the 175 is fantastic, loads of room. I always joke that 3 good friends could use it
at the same time. One in the seperate shower cubicle, one on the loo, while the other cleaned their teeth in the sink
