leisure battery charging

Hi all i was thinking of buying a solar panel to keep my battery charged and while brosing the web i came across a un detailed comment about plugging a set of jump leads from the car to leisure battery with the car running and 5 minutes of this will charge
better than a solar panel running all day and wondered if anyone else has came across this method, cheers.
