Reverse sensors and camera

Hi Guys,

I have just bought a 2012 Bailey Approach 745 SE.  The MH does not have reversing sensors or a reversing camera. Even though i have been driving big vans since I was 17 (now 50), I think that a reversing camera and sensors would
be great help when reversing. I have been reading about reversing cameras on this forum and others.  I have read the Waeco single camera wiring is already in place in this MH.

I would like to fit a double camera if I’m going to bother fitting a system and would prefer a rear view mirror monitor instead of a dash mount. I do understand the installed wiring will only deal with a single camera.

Anyone fitted a DIY camera kit to a 745 SE?

Any advice on camera/monitor kit?

I won’t be buying a Waeco kit.  It seems there are complaints (YMMV) about them and they are crazy money.

Also, I want to fit reversing sensors.  I may also want to fit a towing bar.  I note that the hitch is on a box section that runs along the back of the van between the chassis members.  This may interfere with reversing sensors.

Has anyone fitted a towbar and fitted reversing sensors?

Do you use a set of sensors that can be fitted to metal and fit two sensors to the towbar?

Also, does the reversing sensor interfere with the vehicle’s canbus system?

I fitted a Maplin set to my last commercial van and had no issue.

Thanks in advance

You can fit a double camera with a single cable using a relay in the back. Take the feed from each camera to a relay with two inputs and one output. When in reverse the reverse wire switches the relay to one camera or no power and it switches to the other. You need to power the cameras from 12v supply that is on the ignition circuit. I had twin cameras on a Swift and there was crosstalk between the two cameras signals so I fitted a relay which switched one camera off when not in use and it cured the problem. Reversing sensor should work from reversing light. If not you can use one of the Connect2 units to provide reverse from the CanBus.

Of course, a relay!  Thanks for your reply. I will draw it out and get stuff ordered up.

i only have a single lens camera but it must be a widish angle one as it allows a good view when reversing, allows a clear view of the nearside rear which is great when looking to pull in after overtaking. it also allows a reasonable rearward view as a rear
    mirror.....

came with the van so cant give you the make/spec/cost.

I've also read that a camera with the LED's behind glass alongside the lens/sensor is a bad thing as you get glare.

    Thanks!
