Abbey Stafford 1989 - floor help needed
Hi there, we have just recently purchased a 1989 Abbey Stafford which in most respects is in nice condition and which we absolutely love. We only paid a very budget price for it, knowing that it would need some work doing to make it fully useable in time
for next season. The main issue with it is that the floor is in a fairly bad way and seems to have possibly delaminated or otherwise deteriorated. Part of the floor has already been treated for delam and seems to be fairly sound but other parts of it creak,
crack and move when you walk on it. We knew this when we bought the caravan and we are prepared to spend money on the caravan to get it how we want it.
We spoke to a local caravan centre, explained all the issues and arranged to take it along to be given an estimate for the work. Caravan was duly taken today and well, the guy was nothing short of rude and insulting to put it in a nutshell and told us
that to do everything on it would probably cost more than the caravan is worth and that we should go and look at what they had for sale. He did a damp check, told my husband it was very damp despite there being no signs of it whatsoever and refused to show
him the readings on the damp meter he was using!! So, all in all, we are rather upset and disenchanted to say the very least.
We know that we have got to spend money to get the floor sorted and we are prepared to do that. At the end of the day it is up to us what we spend.
So, can anyone please recommend any mobile caravan repair people who may be able to help us with either getting the floor replaced (which we are happy to do) or repaired but someone who is not going to mind the fact that it is an older caravan or try and
sell us a new one. Also, if there is anyone out there who has done this kind of work themselves and could offer some guidance then we would be very grateful of that too as my husband is an extremely practical person and can turn his hand to most things and
would happily do the work himself with the right guidance.
So sorry to be ranting a bit, we have just had a really bad morning and want to get our lovely girl ready for next summer. Please, please can anyone help???
many thanks one and all and happy caravanning
