Best Approach to Edinburgh CC Site

Good afternoon all,

We are heading to Edinburgh for a week in July and was wondering what the advice would be for the best route towards and around the city to get to the CC site.  Current route planners are suggesting we leave the A74(M) at junction 13 for the A702, before
then heading north west around the A720 (city bypass) but want to check that the A702 is a sensible route for a tourer, as it appears to go through a few smallish towns.  We are heading north from Kendal, so any advice gratefully received.
