1st Service Advice
Hi we bought a new Lunar Lexon 470 May 2015. We had one or two problems fixed by the dealer we bought it from but not happy with workmanship so don't want to take it back there for service. We live near Doncaster so can anyone tell me if either of the Robinsons
dealers are ok for servicing at Chesterfield and Worksop.
Thanks
Margaret

If you do go for a different company to carry out your service, make sure they a) will be able to maintain the warranty conditions and b) they are willing to carry out any warranty work (otherwise you will have to go back to your selling dealer - which
is the norm?)0 -
Before having our Lunar serviced we checked with Lunar and they confirmed any NCC approved business will not invalidate warranty. Not sure if they will let them do warranty work even if they are willing but when a new agent was appointed they suggested all their agents are required to do warranty work.

they are an approved workshop located at babwoth near Retford ,we have used them for our last three services the cost for a single axle service costs aroud £185 plus parts, It is run by one man so get a good honest service he will tell you if there are any
faults. when we had our drive done hr let us put our van in his compound free of charge, he also called San Remo caravans so look him up. we live in doncaster just of Bawtry rd area malc0 -
With all these problems with dealers doing warranty work or not as the case maybe what is the point of all these motorhome/caravan shows if buying something from someone who is miles away from you if the authorised dealers in your area are not prepared to
do the work it's mental they should be regulated and made to do the work the same as the car dealers0 -
Surely it should be made clear at the time of purchase that warranty work needs to be carried out by the supplying dealer, if that dealer happens to be 150 miles away it would have changed my buying decision. Still trying to resolve numerous problems with
my new Elddis!0 -
The problem is that at the various Caravan shows with reps attending from all over the UK, there is the tendency to buy from the man who offers the best deal. They will of course assure you that you will not necessarily have to take the van back to them
for service or warranty work. The problem is that although that is true in theory, there is (Unlike the motor trade) no compulsion on other dealers to do work on a van that they did not sell! Many will not do it, or will not put themselves out etc etc.
A real buyer beware situation.

The problem I think stems from the loss of dealers during the recession. This meant that when things picked up the dealers no longer had the capacity to carry out all the servicing and other work now available. Many dealer therefore seem to have come to
the conclusion that they cannot do all the work offered to them so their existing customers come first. If they have any spare capacity they will do some other work, but warranty work is at a lower rate so why should they help those who went elsewhere to purchase.0 -

If they have any spare capacity they will do some other work, but warranty work is at a lower rate so why should they help those who went elsewhere to purchase.I am glad they do. We ended up paying £500 more for our van to buy it from a dealer 20 miles away rather than the cheapest offer at 350 miles. It was our second purchase from that dealer. So I would expect loyalty to be rewarded, especially if they want
us to buy a motorvan from them in a few years. So far we have been very happy with the service offered.0 -
A £500 saving on a caravan from a dealer 350 miles away results in a lower real life saving. You have 700 miles of fuel to pay for which is probably over £100 in itself. If you have to travel that far you are likely to need to use a site the night before
and the one after picking it up although you might get the second one free. The other serious problem is that the deal will be on the basis that your caravan has no serious faults. They often somehow appear to find damp and demand a reduction of serious money to cover the cost of repair. You are then in a very difficult position
as to what to do. A local dealer will usually check it beforehand so there are no surprises. We have done both but a local dealer would be our choice.0 -
we bought our lunar at exhibition in manchester, from reputable dealer in preston, when warranty work was required they supplied us with a list of places (not necessarily lunar dealers but approved workshops) that would undertake this work for us, all local
to us, it baffles me that dealers or approved workshops wont carry out warranty work like car dealers, after all they will be paid for time, and parts and even more so as a customer there you might be tempted to look round their stock/accessory shop so they
may be losing businnes due to their reluctance0 -
When we came out of the "dark side" we were offered at a show an exceptional "deal to change" from a dealer in Nottingham, when picking up the c/van it was all "set up " for the handover,we decided to stay at Clumber Park to "learn"the new van before setting
of for home in Hertfordshire, its a good job we did, as the faults that were on the van showed that the "PdI" can never have been done,an "engineer" from the dealer spent a whole day and a bit sorting it out as i refused to take it back, and even after that
on our second outing more "problems" appeared which was done under protest by a local same make dealer after some calls to the manufacturer,we got a free second year service from the original dealer which entailed another trip to Nottingham, which we arranged
on the way,to a tour of the Peak District, wesold the van on the run up to the third year service to a dealer four miles from us and have this year bought our second van from them, and it has been far less hassle if not the cheapest0 -

work so dealer asks for it back!! madness0
