Fuel consumption - Peugeot Boxer v Fiat Ducato

These two vans share a common 2.2 litre diesel engine but having exchanged a Boxer for a Ducato based motorhome of a similar size & weight I have experienced an increase in fuel consumption. I have noticed that the Ducato seems to be lower geared than the
Boxer. Can anyone out there confirm this ?
