Double hotplate question

Hi there, we are new to touring, and i was trying to keep the cost down when we have paid for hook up, so i thought we could buy a double hotplate to cook on in the awning rather than using the gas.  Will this trip the hook up or is this ok?  My husband
seems to think that you cant use electric hobs,
