Twin axle towing
Hello all, I wondered if I could get a bit of advice. I've been towing caravans for years and have mainly used Discoveries. However, we have through no fault of our own found ourselves carless (well, I've got a micra, but that's not going to tow our van)
The van we already have is a 2006 Lunar Lexon EW, twin axle, with a MTPLM of around 1600kg off the top of my head. The trouble here is we are skint. We've just got married and have been given £850. I want to put it down as a deposit on a Kia Sorento, but the
new better half doesn't want any finance. So we are left with very (very) few cars we can afford. We are looking at things like the Nissan Terrano, Izuzu Trooper, Mitsubishi Shogun et al. My main question I guess, after checking the outfit matching service
is estate cars. Some of the larger ones (omega, merc 320) are fine for kerb weight, BHP, basically everything except nose weight, where it comes out at around 113%. Am I right in thinking this wouldn't be such an issue with a twin axle van, or am I completely
wrong? Would you risk the estate car, or look for one of the above 4x4s? Any advice for very hard up caravanner would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
