Gas mask required (help re waste water tank issue)

There's a horrible stench which comes from our waste water tank in the motorhome Gas/smell  comes up from the basins.  The drain pipe is up over the chassis which seems really strange as it can't possibly drain correctly.  Is there anything we can use
to flush out the system/tank? Solutions?
