Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi Estate or Saloon

We have just purchased our first ever caravan (a 2007 Coachman Laser 590/4) & now we need to buy a car to tow it.

We are looking at either the Land Rover Freelander 2 TD4 or a Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi saloon or estate. Whilst I'm sure the Land Rover is the perfect tool for the job we are not a going to be towing for 365 days of the year (sadly), so also need to consider
fuel economy and tax, service & parts etc.

Do you think the Ford Mondeo is a suitable car to tow the type of caravan we have bought or do we really need to be buying the Land Rover?
