Touring Scotland's West Coast

We are considering a holiday on the west coast of Scotland, my out fit is a twin axle van just under 8mtrs long, tow car is a 4x4.                                                       Any advice on the furthest north I could safely travel (I'm thinking
using Oban as a base and travel by car only from there).                                                               Any suggested sight seeing trips would be appreciated.
