Hi folks,

Which is the best site to access viewing of the Mach Loop. Ideally we would like hard standing service pitch.

Thanks,

David.

There are two lay bys one on top of the Tal y Llyn pass on the A487 Ref756140 and the other on the  Dinas Pass A470 ref 803170.Both are used extensively by motorhomes and are the starting points for access to the high grounds for aircraft photographers.
Both are immediately below the flight paths.. Most room at Tal y Llyn. No immediate CC or Cl but there is a campsite/caravan site at Brithdir - Llwyn yr Helm.

For the deicated its the loop the RAF and other NATO low flying aircraft make regularly. The picture takers are numerous and there must be a web site. Can be very noisy and not the most liked activity by us locals but hey "Its the sound of freedom" as the
    Yanks say

I had never heard of it either but it is something that I would really enjoy.

Spent hours in the hills above the C&CC site at Moffat watching Tornadoes coming up the valley.

Very popular, hundreds of photographers on the rightdays ( they must have info when something speial is on).You are talking of dozens of jett and the big 4 prop transporrts plus the Hawks from RAF Valley. The photographers are in fact looking down on the
jets as they come through the passes. Everyone to his/her own thing I suppose. Plenty of pictures on web sites.

I have been researching it. Wow!

I could combine my interests in aviation, photography, camping, have a Fysh on the Mawddach and visit my favourite bookshop in Machynlleth.

I am sure you know the shop Fisherman

Very busy these last few days. The replacement for the Hercules is being put through its paces, accompanied by a lot of  jets from Hawks to F16.If anyone is wondering where the motorhomes are this week a lot are wild camping at the top of the Tal y llyn, getting up early for a good photography spot on the side of Cader Idris.

My son and two granddaughters were up st Cader Idris today , he said it had been a good day plane wise. It sounds good fun if you are into planes like they are. The A400 would be brilliant to see being put through its paces.

Very busy with low flying Jets this morning. Last time we saw such prolonged activity was just before Blair took us to war. Anything new in the offing?

The Mach Loop !!. For the dedicated, they fly in a loop, up from Lake Vyrnwy, through Dinas Mawddwy, over the pass, turn to Bala and round to Lake Vyrnwy or vis  versa. Where is the best place to view. Top of Tal y Llyn Pass, Dinas Pass  or up the Golden Road. Does this help? During the last week we have had  The Red Arrows, American Thunderbirds, Belgian, German F16. Ospreys and the new big troop carriers. Mind you its a pain in the a.. for us locals putting up with the noise. But hey its only a National Park.

The increased activity may be due to Air Shows with foreign air forces over here. Dont know why this thread suddenly moved to Sites!

Nice sunny day so the Yanks are back.F15 and tornados today so far. If you want a quiet holiday in these parts you need to know when low flying is taking place but its almost as often as the rain.

Exceptionally busy over last three days. Tuesday was French aircraft. today tornadoes. I understand the Tornadoes are being phased out and being shown off to potential buyers. New jets for RAF coming on line later this year. Have not seen them yet. All laybys on top of both passes full. Quite a number of European motorhomes in both. Not sure if they are plane spotters or just wild campers.

I remember the RAF antics flying through Snowdonia, over Cardigan and Barmouth Bay. The Jindivik drones too being remotely launched and landed at RAF Llanbedr. These target practice ‘planes’ were launched on trolleys and landed on skids. Great fun as kids to watch.
