Water heater often does not switch on

Hi,

I wonder if anyone has experienced this - I often find that when I turn my Abbey Iona's water heater on (using a switch on the wall) it fails to ignite, with a red light coming on a few seconds after I press the on switch.

According to the manual this can happen if there is air in the gas piping and it suggests leaving it for 3 minutes and trying again. But some days I try maybe ten times throughout the day, with no success. On other days it works after three or four attempts.

My 47kg propane gas cylinder is permanently connected and left on, so there is no air being introduced by any detaching and re-attaching of the gas source.

I'm not on electrical mains but my caravan battery level is always in the green (it's kept topped up by a large solar panel).

Can anyone suggest what I can do to fix this rather annoying fault?

Thanks!
