I am just switching from a caravan to a motor home and looking to arrange Insurance. I have been given a quote from Caravanguard. Has anyone had any experience of this company? Quote seems competitive. Always used CC in the past for my caravans.

Try Comfort insurance.  They were recommended to me when I bought my first motorhome.  They have won the Which motorhome insurance provider of the year 5 times.  I've only ever heard good things about them and I've not had any problems with them.  The true test though is when you need to claim.  Fortunatley I've not had to find that one out.

+1 for Comfort & their special policy is from AVIVA. Excellent value, breakdown if needed is very good too & no restrictions on over 3.5 tonnes for recovery. Not had to claim though but I have confidence all would be as good as anywhere else from past conversations
    with their staff. Regards, Roy

Try NFU, not the cheapest but very comprehensive cover.

NFU for me. Not the cheapest but not expensive plus they have offices where you can walk in and speak to people who know what they're talking about.

changed my caravan cover For MotorHome cover two weeks ago and found that the CC offered a good all round deal , it's not all about price ,but it really comes down to an individual choice , I don't think there is any right or wrong ,as long as you have cover.

We're with the CC too. Always helpful on the phone but so far (thankfully) not put to the test.

When we swapped to a motohome I stayed with the CC and was surprised that it was no more expensive than the caravan to insure despite being worth three times as much!!!. Did get some other quotes but none of them seemed particularly better value than the Club. Because the motorhome was a additional vehicle I had to start building a no claims bonus which might have influenced the prices I was quoted. The CC had a good introductory offer which allowed for a no claims discount but until I have built up the no claims bonus I can't have a protected no claims bonus.

    Thanks for starting this thread.....

....we too agreed to buy our first motorhome after 30 plus years of carvanning Cool

One of today's tasks will be to arrange for the insurance.

Our first port of call will be CC where a obtained on 'on line' quote of onlly £145.93 with no NCD to transfer over.

So like David above it's gonna be cheaper than our lower valued Coachman Innocent

It's not a really expensive motorhome on the scale of things and we are both now nearly 60 Surprised

My cousin is with Comfort after another company messed up her NCD transfer.

Watch this space I'll report back on progress....

Caravanguard are a reputable motorhome insurer as evidenced by posts on other motorhome forums.

I've been with Comfort for the last 7 years. Last year they paid out for a new A-class windscreen without any quibble and my renewal quote, net of tax, was just £15 higher and I'm sure will come down if I haggle.

Really pleased that we have arranged CC Motorhome Insurance for only £188. Fully comp etc Cool

And that is with 3 additional drivers (wife, daughter and son-in-law)

And with introductory offer not bring across any NCB from our other cars...

Interesting to note that when I tried to add my younger daughter, aged 35yrs, it bumped it up to over £741 Surprised

Fella said it was because she was under 36yrs. Looks like she'll have to wait to get her hands on our new 'pride and joy' Wink

We are with SAGA again this year but always shop around, so far they have come out the best for us.

Saga declined to quote because of the storage location.

Club declined to quote because my wife had an accident 18 months ago.

Went to Safeguard because they seemed to cover everything including European breakdown, honoured my NCD from the car and gave me a discount for buying from Marquis. They were not concerned about second driver in any way.

Seems to me that some insurance Companies only want the extremely low risk business.

There is absolutely no ryme or reason to insurance quotes. One company may be good to one but not to another, so many variables. I am with the Caravan Club and have been for a number of years. I cannot for the life of me work out how they calculate the premiums
(apart from being risk based) I have a 2010 50cc Vespa in the garage of the motorhome. Valued at say £900. I pay £97 a year Third Party Fire and Theft. My motorhome valued at £175000 costs me £297 a year fully comprehensive. I guess motorhomes claim less and
    do less damage than scooters.

For info the CC do not cover any van over £100K but as an exisiting customer they contacted the underwriter to continue cover and they renewed on that basis and one of the reasons, along with great premium why I have stayed with the club.
