Setting up Awning for the first time

hi guys i  need advice having watched the instructional video for my Pyramid Tuscany awning i noticed that the roof poles bear onto the side of the caravan with a pad between them a the caravan wall> I was just wondering if the pressure exerted onto the
side of the caravan could damage the side wall in anyway. Any tips greatly recieved. As an engineer i have considered introducing something behind the pad to spread the load over a wider area.
