Alde Heating System first operation
I have a brand new Buccaner Cruiser and will be taking it out on its first run over the Easter break. I notice that my heating system level is very low indeed. Below the level the manual mentions. My salesman informs ne that the fluid will expand and ill
reach the required level once it is used for the first time. Does anyone agree with this or should I get the system looked at and topped up prior to starting it up for the first time?

The fluid level should be a little above minimum. Often when the system is first filled some air will remain, which is displaced when the van is towed, so the system may need topped up a few times.
Rather than return the van to the dealer, personally I would find out what antifreeze is in the system and buy some to use, for us that would be by far the cheaper course of action.
The fluid will expand a bit, so do not overfill.

hi margarita alde heating level i have had alde heating for 2 years only ever put in a eggcup full but last week i left to go away and my wife said to me level was below minuim and said to top it up i said no but in the end i top it up i should have left
it alone as when i got to site and put heating on it expanded so then had to drain some of so after all that i would get to site and try it firstbefore topping up hope this helps bassett.0 -
The level is measured cold and should be in my case halfway between the low and high levels; about 15mm above the low. It expands quite a lot as it heats up and if overfilled will displace the excess out of the "overflow" tube.
As the system has not yet been operated I would advise to run it on gas and electricity if you can to get it as hot as possible, leaving it running for another half hour. Doing this will help purge out any trapped air and air disolved in the fluid that might otherwise cause an air-lock. These can occur in the early days when the system is put to use, if the system has not first been really hot and left running like that for long enough to naturally dissipate air via the header. Once really purged like that the level should in my experience not need much attention and further air locks not occur.
After that you might need when cold to re top-up.
Hopefully something similar has been done during the PDI and you will just waste gas. However I have know it not to have happened and on the first or second outing the system air lock up.

The system should have been run on the PDI and shown to you running with an explanation of the control panel, on the hand-over when you collected the van. (or that is what happened when I collected a new van with Alde heating)
