VW Passat Parking Brake Motors

Can any Passat owner help me? We have a cracked plastic cover on the offside motor fitted to the rear wheel that applies the parking brake. (Bring back handbrakes!)

Our Passatt is five and a half years old. The price fitted is £445. We are hoping for a discount from VW as we think these things should last longer. anyone else experienced this problem so soon?
