Gravel hardstandings: the downside
This season I have been away for 30 nights so far on 7 sites. These have not all been CC sites. I have particularly noticed the adverse visual effect of gravel and on the one site (Milestone) where all the grass pitches were taken, I found pegging out the awning difficult. In fact so difficult that I did not complete it. Near the entrance to this site is a large expanse of gravel with no grass. This undoubtedly detracts from a very attractive site. Hargill House near Scotch Corner haas an area at the western end of the site that looks like a disused car park. I was fortunate to secure a south facing grass pitch, looking over the dales. Even rural Stamford has gravel. Thirsk by contrst has all grass and looks much better. Some C & CC sites such as Scarborough and Chichester have grass over reinforced plastic, which looks good. Should we not take stock of these effects before covering all our sites in gravel.
